Melbourne Day ToursMelbourne is the cultural capital of Australia and day tour mecca. Packed with great restaurants, cafes and shopping, Melbourne is also home to some of the most accessible nature tours and day tours available.
We
start this experience by travelling past the sporting precinct that became famous in the 1956 Olympic Games and now roars to the cheers of Aussie Rules crowds each weekend. See the nearby Rod Laver Tennis Centre that hosts the Australian Tennis Open each year as well as the world famous MCG which has hosted most of the major events that have come to this city.
We
depart Melbourne city, travelling through a cross section of suburbs to
the eucalypt forests of Warrandyte. Enjoy a short stroll with your
guide with a chance to see the diverse birdlife and koalas that inhabit
the forest. A short drive to Sugarloaf Dam will enable you to enjoy
morning tea whilst having the chance to see kangaroos relaxing in their
natural habitat.
This fascinating experience takes you southeast of the city through the rich Gippsland coastal region.
As
we leave the city our first stop is at a working Dairy farm,
Caldermeade. This gives you a glimpse of rural Victoria so close to the
city, yet a world away. If you are lucky we may be in time for milking
where the rotolactor comes into its own (a huge milking machine that
can milk up to 400 cows at any one time).
Leaving the city we head over the magnificent Westgate Bridge. This bridge
offers awesome views of the Docklands, as well as a panoramic view of
the city skyline.
We soon arrive at Geelong and take you down to
Corio Bay. Corio Bay is a wonderful mix of old wharves, woolstores and
a fully restored 1930s seabathing complex. See wonderful examples of
century old housing and the 100 brightly painted bollards dotted around
the bay depicting some of Geelong's local historic characters, each
having its own story to tell.
Day
One: As you leave the city center and restored docklands of Melbourne,
the stretching suburbs and Port Phillip Bay can be seen from the top of
Westgate Bridge. Enter the volcanic western plains of Victoria where
European settlers forged there way as far as the Otway Ranges,
establishing large sheep properties, and homesteads.
